March 28 – Los Angeles, CA – The Final Presentation and Reception for the 2015 Letter to My ParentsTM Contest in Los Angeles was held on Thursday, March 28, 2015 at the Silver Lake Medical Center where ten finalists recited their letters dedicated to their parents. For this year’s contest, Leslie Huerta won the first prize where she received a $500 cash scholarship. The second prize winner was Maia Hito and third prize was awarded to Ronald Eleazar. Maia received $300 and Ronald $200 cash scholarships. All prizes were sponsored by the Rotary Club of Historic Filipinotown. Jovanny Lopez and Mabel Aceves received a special recognition by the judges.

During the month of May, members of Reiyukai America hosted various events and activities nationwide commemorating Memorial Day. Members honored and showed their appreciation for the heroes who strove to protect this country. Each event became a perfect opportunity to raise awareness that each one who lives today must strive hard to create a brighter future that our fore-runners can be proud of.

bApril 13-22 Friendship Without Borders Creates the Future -Tokyo, Japan ? From April 13th to the 22nd, Luisa Sosa and Guadalupe Delgado, co-winners of the 2015 Letter to My Parents ContestTM  in Chicago, traveled to Japan as delegate members of the cultural program—Youth Cultural Exchange US-Mexico-Japan. The Youth Cultural Exchange US-Mexico-Japan is an educational program for young Hispanic leaders in the US and Mexico. It started over two decades ago with an initiative from the State Government of Guanajuato, Mexico.

April 25 Reiyukai Calling to Action to Support Nepal – On April 25th, a powerful earthquake of 7.9 magnitude struck Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. Many buildings were destroyed, lives lost, victims injured, and a wide area of Nepal and the neighboring countries was devastated. Upon receiving this tragic news, Reiyukai Headquarters immediately decided to donate a total of ten million yen from the Arigato Kodama Fund to support the people of Nepal. On May 1st, Yoshio Kawai, Reiyukai’s Chief Exectutive Director, visited H.E. Madan Kumar Bhattarai, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Nepal in Japan, to donate five million yen to the Government of Nepal. He also visited the Japan Platform, an international emergency humanitarian aid organization which offers the most effective and prompt emergency aid in response to global emergencies, focusing on issues of refugees and natural disasters, to support the cause of disaster relief in Nepal. Mar 15- Annual RANC Meeting:  Once again, regional representatives from Los Angeles, Hawai‘i, Connecticut and Chicago gathered in the Windy City to attend the Reiyukai America National Committee Annual Conference. REACT members from different regions also joined the meeting. The participants at the Conference evaluated the results of the activities and projects that were implemented in each region during 2014—in order to make 2015 another year full of care and compassion. Many new projects and activities were introduced to the community during 2014 with a view to expanding the scope of Reiyukai’s philosophy.
